Warnock and Walker make final pitches in Georgia Senate runoff

Today Sen. Raphael G. Warnock (D-Ga.) and Republican challenger Herschel Walker are making the final pitches in the Georgia Senate runoff to be decided Tuesday. Both campaigns are making pitfalls to motivate grassroots voters in a race where turnout will be crucial. Democrats are slated to control the Senate as soon as next year, but an extra seat would give the party more clout in the now evenly divided chamber. Former President Donald Trump plans to attend a tele-rally for Walker Monday night.

As Congress returns to Washington this week, Republican lawmakers will be pressed this weekend for Trump’s proposal to repeal the US Constitution in response to his baseless claims that the 2020 election was stolen. The response since Saturday has been largely muted. On Monday, former Vice President Mike Pence and a handful of Republican senators questioned Trump’s comments, saying office holders should support the constitution.
