Two Georgia poll workers have sued former US President Donald Trump’s attorney Rudy Giuliani and right-wing news network One America News.
Ruby Freeman and Wandrea “Shaye” Moss filed the lawsuit Thursday in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, saying the mother and daughter, who are both mothers and daughters, are accused of “objects of vitriol, threats, and molestation.” “
“They found themselves in this unenviable position, not because of their actions, but because of a campaign of malicious lies aimed at accusing them of disrupting a fair and impartial election, which is exactly what protects each one of them.” swore an oath. ‘ the lawsuit says.
Ms Freeman and Ms Moss specifically cited OAN owners Robert and Charles Herring and reporter Chanel Rion alongside Mr Giulian, saying they were responsible for their character’s murder. Specifically, the lawsuit alleges that the network made a “concerted effort” to accuse Ms Freeman and Ms Moss of committing voter fraud to steal the 2020 presidential election, despite knowing the allegations were untrue.
“Knowing that the allegations against Ms. Freeman and Ms. Moss were not based on fact, OAN has spent the past year accusing them of engaging in the illegal act of voter fraud, along with other false allegations. As part of this campaign, OAN repeatedly reached out to Giuliani, a member of former President Trump’s campaign team and one of the central organizers of the conspiracy theory that the 2020 election was rigged,” the lawsuit states.
Ms. Freeman served as a temporary polling clerk with the Fulton County Registration and Elections Division while Ms. Moss oversaw the county’s polling operations during the election.
The lawsuit noted how the Trump campaign retweeted video footage from OAN that allegedly showed poll workers illegally ordering observers to leave the poll and counting ballots without proper observation. These claims were promptly refuted by State Voting Implementation Manager Gabriel Sterling and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. But OAN continued to repeat the claims, as did Mr Giuliani on his podcast.
In summary, the defendants were aware of the numerous testimonies by Georgia officials that refute the allegations of wrongdoing put forward by the Trump campaign, and were also aware that several fact-checking organizations used the statements made by the Georgia officials facts presented.” the suit asserted.
The lawsuit alleges defamation against all of the defendants in the lawsuit, as well as infliction of emotional distress and civil conspiracy for alleged tortious acts against all of the defendants. Finally, the lawsuit alleges OAN and Mr. Giuliani assisted in “all tortious acts against all of the defendants.”
Mr. Giuliani had previously been suspended from law practice in both New York and Washington after he disseminated “provenly false and misleading statements” that “directly” ignited the Jan. 6 riot.
