Experts tell Channel 2 that there are risks and potential threats associated with every social media platform, but TikTok is the only one located and operated in China.
This means the company is subject to Chinese law, which gives the government access to private and sensitive information.
“China has ordered no tech company to cooperate with law enforcement,” Cyrus Walker said. “This makes it more difficult for law enforcement agencies to track down cybercriminals in China.”
