Thousands of Georgia workers are owed by companies that have violated labor laws, says the US Ministry of Labor

Officials from the Federal Authority said that previous campaigns led to promoting the so -called “workers' wages” or “Wow” program, led to an increase in employees who are recaptured by wages that are due to them.

Employees can visit the website of the Ministry of Labor and follow the instructions for searching in the WoW database. Even if a person who is owed to them does not find, Falcon encouraged people to share the website with family or friends who may have been victims of wage theft.

The money that is recovered is back from various work examinations of companies in Georgia.

The investigators initially find that an employer violated the law by not paying appropriate wages to the employees. The business that the law violates then tries to track down this worker.

But if the employer cannot find this worker, this money will be sent to the Ministry of Labor. If federal officials cannot find the employee after three years, the money will be handed over to the Ministry of Finance.

“Then it is completely outside of our control,” said Falcon about the means.

The law, which affects the largest number of employees, is the law on fair work standards, said Falcon, who includes the Federal Minimum wage and overtime payments. According to this law, covered employees are entitled to a minimum wage of the federal government of $ 7.25 per hour. Employees who are covered must also be paid overtime with a price of at least one and a half times their regular wage rate after 40 hours in a working week.

According to the federal government, there are around 170 million US dollars nationwide to have owed around 189,000 employees in cash unused. Other employees who should look for wages that are not claimed are those in agriculture, construction, hospitality, domestic healthcare sectors or federal contract work.

“Every employee who believes that he may have been underpaid by an employer should check (the database),” said Falcon.

In addition, she said that everyone in Georgia, who believes that his employer is violating wage laws, can contact the US Ministry of Labor at 1-866-487-9243. The calls are confidential and calls that can support employees in many languages.
