The representative of Georgia State, Kasey Carpenter from District 4, said that he had created a petition to demand legislators to rethink immigration policy. He says the current system is simply too slow and too complex.
“You cannot simply concentrate on one aspect; otherwise, who will be in power next time, and it will never be solved. It will be what I say, a political volleyball, and these people are the main burden of it,” says Carpenter.
Carpenter speaks out on behalf of the Georgia's immigrant community and says that the state needs a more compassionate and capable of work.
He says that these guidelines are at risk of innocent people and that we have to work together to achieve a solution.
“We can agree on border security. We can agree that criminals from this country are being taken out, but we have to find a solution for the people who are here in our community and in our district,” says Carpenter. “What is happening is not good for the longevity of Whitfield County and the success of Northwest Georgia.”
Ximena's case is only one of hundreds that take place every year.
“It is heartbreaking, but this is only the tip of the iceberg. This happens every day for many families in the northwest of Georgia,” says Carpenter. “I am glad that her story is charged with humans because she is such a special young lady, but there are 10 of them a week.”
While the case of Ximena moves the immigration court system, Carpenter wants to support you and her family with a long way to support us.
“Fight the fight,” he says. “You know, they have a long distance. This process will end up well for them, but you speak for 2-3 years before receiving a settlement on this topic.”
The year -long process to get a visa is another problem, which is why Carpenter says that changes are necessary.
Carpenter also says that he was able to speak to the officer who initially arrested Ximena.
According to the department, the former official of the Dalton police authority, Leslie O'Neal, is still checked administratively despite his withdrawal.
“He received a lot of counter -reaction because he only did his job and I don't think soLosers to a solution by attacking the police officers who just do their job. Did he make a mistake? Absolutely. Are you crushing the guy because of the error? As a Christian, I say no, “says Carpenter.” The legislators are to blame. That is what the petition is about: to talk to the legislators about a solution, because Ximena is not only a victim, but I would also argue that some of the police are also a victim. “
He says that the errors in the system not only influence Ximena, her family or other similar situations: they all affect them.
“They create this problem where they create victims on both sides because they do not want to hold these people. They know that they are not a hard criminal and a danger to society,” says Carpenter. “We don't give you a choice.”
