The opening arguments of the Ahmaud Arbery Slaying Trial start in Georgia

BRUNSWICK, Georgia – The opening arguments began Friday in the trial of three white men charged with the February 2020 murder of Ahmaud Arbery, a black man.

The trial was postponed following early processing of the case by the then District Attorney for the region, court closings related to the Covid-19 pandemic, and weeks of jury selections. Prosecutors said in court records that Gregory McMichael, his son Travis McMichael and William “Roddie” Bryan Jr. assaulted and shot and killed Mr Arbery several times while he was jogging during the day in Satilla Shores, a predominantly white residential area outside Braunschweig.
