The Georgian Parliament adopted the bill “On family values ​​and the protection of minors” in third reading during a plenary session. 84 MPs voted for it.

The draft law was presented by the Chairman of the Committee on Human Rights Protection and Civil Integration, Rati Ionatamishvili.

“The work on this initiative has drawn a very clear line between who decides what – who chooses to implement the best interests of society and who carries out external orders, for whom the protection of human rights is important and who is propaganda and harmful Influence supports who protects.” To protect minors from harmful influence and tries to raise awareness among minors of issues such as gender reassignment and the introduction of LGBT propaganda in schools and kindergartens. The fact is that the work on this initiative drove the opposition out of parliament. “Today the opposition is already on the run. It is important that this initiative receives the support that our society demands,” said Rati Ionatamishvili.

The bill regulates issues related to marriage, adoption of minors and foster care, use of medical procedures to change gender other than biological, indication of gender in documents issued by the state, education, dissemination of information and public meetings and demonstrations as well as disregard for biological sex in working relationships. The legislative package also defines the enforcement mechanisms and those required to implement the law.

In addition, May 17 is established at the legal level as a day of family sanctity and respect for parents.

According to the law, marriage is a voluntary union between two people of different biological sex with the aim of creating a family that meets the requirements of Georgian legislation. Registration or legal recognition of any form of marriage other than marriage is not permitted.
