The Georgia Senate is considering legislation to modernize evidentiary practices in state courts

The Georgia Senate is considering a bill that, if passed, would result in changes to court evidence requirements. These include revisions to the “hearsay exception relating to expert testimony and scholarly dissertation,” which plays a major role in civil liability cases.

The Modernizing Georgia’s Evidence and Proceedings Act was introduced by Senator John Albers, R-Roswell, and was co-sponsored by Republican Senators Randy Robertson of Cataula, Mike Dugan of Carrollton, Chuck Payne of Dalton, Brandon Beach of Alpharetta, and Russ Goodman of Cogdell and Billy Hickman of Statesboro. Since its inception, it has been referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
