what you need to know

  • Georgia Judiciary Council votes unanimously to recommend legislative reform of judiciary salaries.
  • Under the proposal, salary base rates for Georgia attorneys would be raised to make them comparable to federal judges for fiscal year 2024.
  • The plan calls for the county’s allowances to be replaced with a location-based subsistence allowance, but at no more than 10% of state-provided salaries.
  • If implemented, existing judges could choose to opt into the new compensation plan or carry over their existing salary and any additional benefits.

Chief Justice Harold D. Melton did.

The same is true of former state commercial judge Walter W. Davis.
