David Dyer, a 65-year-old retired federal law enforcement officer, moved to this Monroe, Georgia home in 2019. He’s trapped with a near-finished pool that was signed more than a year ago. “I just thought it would be a great place for families to gather,” said Dyer. Dyer waited 15 months and counted for his pool. He paid thousands of dollars and has nothing to show. “I withdrew about $ 97,000 out of my pocket,” added Dyer. He signed a contract with Blue Haven Pools in Johns Creek in February 2020 and began construction in April. He said they promised 12 weeks to get the job done. “It went great at first, but then COVID struck,” Dyer said. The pandemic has made many things scarce, such as a labor shortage and material shortage. And I think the contractor may have run into some cash flow problems, ”added Dyer. Additionally, Dyer said there were a lot of bugs. “They just walked away leaving me with no choice but to bring in another builder,” said Melissa Stern of Dyer.CBS46, reaching out to the company but unable to contact anyone take up. However, a quick search on the Business Bureau’s better website reveals that they have a “D” rating. I went to the Contractors Board, I went to the State Licensing Board, BBB, all these things hissed, I talked to an attorney, and the cost of it would have been astronomical, ”Dyer said. Dyer is now offering a cautionary story to others. He had to hire a new contractor to complete the job – for an additional $ 15,000. He recommended hiring a lawyer to review a contract before hiring anyone and always do your homework. He hopes he can actually use his pool this summer.
