According to her family, a popular Atlanta social media influencer has died at the age of 22.
Annabelle Ham, who had nearly 80,000 subscribers on YouTube, died as a result of an “epileptic event,” her family said in a statement on July 18.
“She has struggled with this for a long time and wanted to draw attention to what we will be doing in her honor,” the statement said. “Annabelle was beautiful and inspirational and lived life to the fullest.”
Ham’s sister Alexandria Ham also mourned her sister in a social media post.
“Words will never describe how heartbroken my family and I are,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “Annabelle was such a light to the world. A spark plug. If you knew Annabelle, you loved her and loved being with her.”
Tributes poured into Annabelle Ham’s social media pages from family, friends and followers, who said she had inspired them.
“Your authenticity that you have shared is valuable,” wrote a commenter on one of Ham’s February YouTube videos. “You don’t know because sadly you were taken from this earth, but you inspired this ‘older woman’ to get in touch with her inner young woman and post my own content.”
Ham started posting YouTube videos in 2015. Over the years, she has released videos and vlogs showing how she tries on new clothes, sharing beauty and self-care tips, documenting travel and girls’ nights out, and sharing intimate details of her life.
Many of her followers said they connected with her and felt like they knew her by watching her content.
“Right now I’m in shock,” wrote one commenter on her Instagram page. “I’ve watched Annabelle since she was in high school and it felt like I was watching an older sister. Prayers for you all.”
Ham was a student at Kennesaw State University in Georgia, where she was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority.
The sorority said in a statement on Instagram that its members had lost “a big part of our hearts.”
“She was caring, selfless and carried so much love in her heart,” the statement said. “She always had a smile on her face and always managed to put a smile on people’s faces.”
The story goes on
On December 6, Ham posted a video celebrating her 22nd birthday.
“I’m 22!!” she wrote in a caption. “It’s strange how time flies.”
In a video posted to her YouTube page on Feb. 28, Ham said she’s excited to start the next chapter of her life after college.
“I’m really looking forward to the future,” she said. “I applied for internships and various things. I applied for a couple of summer internships, which I’m really excited about. … I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited to have a job.”
