ATLANTA — Georgia State University will present Chris “Ludacris” Bridges with an honorary doctorate at the beginning of May 4 at 9 a.m. at Center Parc Stadium. The public is invited to attend the ceremony and it will be live streamed at beginning.gsu.edu.
The University System of Georgia Board of Regents approved the honorary doctorate on Wednesday. Bridges is awarded an Honorary Bachelor of Science in Music Management.
Bridges, a business mogul, multi-GRAMMY® award-winning artist, actor, and entrepreneur, is recognized for his support of the state of Georgia’s creative media arts and law programs, significant commitment to the Metro Atlanta community, and statewide philanthropic efforts the President of the State of Georgia, M. Brian Blake.
“We’re proud that Chris Bridges started in the state of Georgia,” Blake said. “He has become a cultural and philanthropic icon who represents Atlanta and gives back in many ways. Our students at the Creative Media Industries Institute (CMII) and College of Law have benefited from his career and we are delighted to honor him as a member of the Panther family.”
Bridges joined Georgia State CMII as Artist-in-Residence in 2019. In this role, he has mentored students and worked with CMII professors focused on entrepreneurship in the music and film industries. In addition to his appointment at CMII, Bridges worked with the College of Law on one of the first offerings of a course entitled The Legal Life of….
Bridges took classes at Georgia State in the early 1990s before signing with Def Jam Records. In 2001 he founded the Ludacris Foundation (TLF), a platform for youth and families in urban communities.
“It’s a dream come true for me,” said Bridges. “The State of Georgia helped me get started and I am honored and excited to share this milestone with the world.”
