Recently, the Georgia Attorney General gathered for an annual mid-year meeting to meet our goals of improving the administration of justice and promoting principles of duty and public service among members of the bar. In the expanded session and in the discussions since then, it has become most evident that we are unwaveringly committed to ensuring equal justice and the rule of law.
It is for this reason that recent events in the U.S. Capitol, particularly fatal acts of violence and dishonor to our historic institutions, clearly contradict the avowed mission of our bar and we condemn willful acts and dangerous rhetoric that violate these principles. As members of the Georgia Attorney’s Office, we have a responsibility to uphold not only the Georgia State Constitution but the United States Constitution as well. Our work to promote and protect the principles of democracy and the principles set forth in the US Constitution continues, rest assured.
Let’s stand together and do the work.
Dawn Jones is President of the State Bar of Georgia.
