In response to the June 2 story of Congressman Buddy Carter’s proposed law to cut funding for states like California and New York for helping “illegal immigrants,” such legislation will not help anyone in Georgia or anywhere else.
Legally, the constitution protects everyone, not just citizens. For moral reasons, the Bible repeatedly informs us of God’s command to welcome the stranger. “If a stranger lives with you in your country, you should not do him any injustice. The stranger who lives with you should be like one of your citizens; love him as yourself, for you were a stranger in the land of Egypt.
If this order is ignored, condemnation rests on the nation. Let’s fight for the constitution and do the right thing, regardless of the party.
