LAGRANGE, Georgia (AP) – Someone shot dead and killed a pregnant woman driving down a highway in West Georgia, authorities said.
The Troup County Sheriff’s agents found the woman unconscious with bullet holes in the car after responding to reports of a single vehicle accident on Tuesday afternoon, news outlets reported. The shooting occurred on Highway 18 near Drummond Road and the woman was later identified as Akeila Ware, 29.
Ware was taken to a local hospital where she and her unborn child died of her injuries.
Investigators believe a second vehicle was involved in the shooting, which likely took place at the intersection of Highway 18 and Whitesville Rd., A state patrol spokesman for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution said. The investigators did not name a possible motive.
The authorities suspect that a silver Nissan with possible front damage is the second vehicle, said the spokesman.
The Georgia State Patrol is still investigating the crash while the sheriff’s deputies search for Ware’s killer.
