Obituary | Sheila “Charlene” Hammonds of Rome, Georgia

Ms. Sheila “Charlene” Oaks Hammonds, 73, of Rome, GA, passed away Sunday, November 19, 2023, at a local health facility.

Ms. Hammonds was born April 10, 1950 in Rome, Georgia, the daughter of the late William Franklin Oaks Sr. and the late Ruby Nell Brown Oaks. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Shiflett and Glenda Collins, and five brothers, Junior Oaks, Joe Oaks, Buddy Oaks, JC Oaks and Wally Oaks. Ms. Hammonds was a graduate of East Rome High School. She retired from Dollar General after more than 15 years as a store manager. Mrs. Hammonds was devoted to her children and family gatherings were a happy place for her. She loved to cook and bake for everyone she could. Ms. Hamonds was a God-fearing Christian who often shared God’s love by reciting Bible verses to her family and friends. Her friendly, loving nature will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her three children, Casey Hardin (Lonnie), Stephen Hammonds and Corey Shane Hammonds; 8 grandchildren, Brent Frost (Crystal), Haiden Hardin, Bailey Hardin, Maddison Hammonds, Brilynn Stewart, Colby Hammonds, Sarah Hammonds and Carver Hammonds; 2 great-grandchildren, Christian Perry and Mallory Hammonds; a brother-in-law, Jerry Collins; several nieces and nephews.

In accordance with her wishes, Ms. Hammonds will be cremated and a memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service on Sunday at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel.
