Georgia Tomoye Nakano
November 7, 1935 – April 25, 2022
Longtime resident of San Jose and Sunnyvale
Georgia was a sweet, kind and compassionate person who we will miss. She was born into a large family of tenant farmers who worked in the Campbell-Saratoga area. She was the sixth of eight children and spent part of her early years helping her parents and siblings tend crops such as strawberries, plums and apricots. She attended Fremont High School in Sunnyvale and the secretarial school at Heald College in San Jose. She began her career as a clerk in the Santa Clara County Welfare Department and, after a ten-year hiatus to raise two children, resumed her career at Mountain View High School. She was secretary of the foreign language department and the student union. She retired in 1997.
Georgia married Mas Nakano of Sunnyvale in 1965 to become a loving wife and mother of two children, Tracey and Wanda, with whom she left her job to devote herself full-time to housekeeping and raising children. When the children reached the age of sufficient maturity, Georgia decided to pursue her career as a secretary.
Georgia is preceded in death by her parents Sensuke and Tsutaye Hirashima, and her siblings Itsuwo Hirashima, Noby Amamoto, Saddie Katayama, Janice Hirashima, and Bob Hirashima.
She is survived by her husband Masamichi Nakano; her daughter Tracey Kemp; her son-in-law Jeremy Kemp; her daughter Wanda Nakano; her grandchildren Julia Kemp, Catherine Kemp and Kobe Marshall. She is also survived by her sisters Asami Endo and Nardine Brandon.
