Mona Louise McCain Pledger, 76, of Rome, passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon, June 1, 2023 in the presence of her Savior.

Mrs. Pledger was born on August 14, 1946 in Rome, Georgia to the late Fred Thomas McCain and the late Naomi Walker McCain. She was an honors graduate of Pepperell High School in 1964. On May 29, 1970, Mona married Billy Pledger and they began their 53-year life journey together. Mona was a housewife raising her children. She joined the State Mutual Insurance Company team in 1986 and worked there until her retirement in 2000 as a representative for Universal Life Insurance. Thanks to her mother, Mona and her siblings received piano lessons. She was a dedicated and talented pianist at churches including Shorter Avenue Baptist Church and Dykes Creek Baptist Church for 60 years. She has spent the last 20 years at Hill Crest Baptist Church, where she also served as a Sunday School teacher and director of the Summer Bible School for various age groups.

In addition to her parents, Mona also passed away on April 26, 2023, her devoted and caring husband Bill. Her brother Bobby McCain and sister Cherry McCain also died.

Mona is survived by children Todd Pledger and Courtney Pledger, grandchildren Sydney Pledger and Jackson Pledger, and granddaughter Minnie. Other survivors include her sisters Shirley Looney and Nancy Rogers; brother, Phil McCain; sister-in-law Pat McCain; Sister-in-law Debbie (Jeff) Dunagan and a number of nieces, nephews, great-great-great-nieces and nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive their friends on Sunday, June 4, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, 2542 Shorter Avenue, Rome. A service in celebration of life will be held at 11am on Monday 5 June at the Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, conducted by Dr. Charles Drummond instead. Burial will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Jackson Pledger, Chase Turner, Steve Turner, Brad Shelton and Frank Jones.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Harborview Nursing Home and Traditions Hospice for the outstanding care and compassion they have shown over the past few weeks.
