Rev. James F. “Jim” Cook, 72, of Lindale, Georgia, placed himself in the arms of his Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at a local healthcare facility.
Rev. Cook was born August 20, 1951 in Jasper, Georgia, the son of the late Arthur Cook and the late Elsie Holcomb Cook. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Brannon Cook, and a sister, Ann Cook Knight. Rev. Cook received his bachelor’s degree from Brenau University and went on to earn his master’s and Ed.S. from Jacksonville State University. He was a longtime teacher and administrator in the Bartow County School System, from which he retired. During his career he has served as a mathematics teacher, assistant principal and principal.
Rev. Cook was a member of First Baptist Church in Lindale, Georgia for over four decades. During this period he faithfully served in many different capacities, from full-time to part-time positions. He is a former music minister, youth minister, recreation director, Sunday school teacher and Bible study teacher, as well as serving in various other capacities. He retired from full-time ministry as an associate pastor. Rev. Cook truly had a heart for serving and promoting the Kingdom of God in whatever role the Lord needed.
Survivors include his two children, David Cook (Hannah), Cartersville, and Julie Cook, Lindale; 2 grandchildren, Julianne “Jay” Cook and Lilliana “Lila” Cook; his chosen granddaughter, Xandria Evers; a brother, Charles Cook (Carol); his mother-in-law, Phyllis Acree Brannon; a brother-in-law, Dean Brannon (Janice); and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Rev. Cook’s life will be held at his church, First Baptist Church of Lindale, on Monday, October 30, 2023, at 6 p.m. Rev. Eric Whelchel will preside.
The family will receive friends at the First Baptist Church of Lindale on Monday from 4 p.m. until the time of service.
