Obituary for Georgia Cooper (1936 – 2023)

Georgia Ann Ramsey Cooper, 87, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2023 at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Georgia was born on June 22, 1936 in Rocky Mount, Virginia to Robert Coleman Ramsey and Ethel (George) Ramsey. Georgia was a cheerleader at Franklin County High School, graduating in 1954. Georgia met Russell Wayne Cooper in 1955 and they married in 1956 at Rocky Mount Methodist Church. They resided in Boones Mill, VA. for several years before Wayne was enlisted in the Army. She has served our country well as a military wife while stationed at military bases primarily in the Southeastern United States, including the time she was separated from her husband while he served one tour of duty in Korea and two tours of duty in Vietnam. Later military assignments took her to Charlotte, NC; Heidelberg, Germany; feet Lee, VA; and finally Ballwin, MO, where they retired in 1990. Georgia was the focus of the party, loved to laugh out loud and loved her family more than anything, especially her two grandchildren. She was a wonderful, supportive mother to her two sons. Her younger son Robert was her faithful carer after her husband passed away in 2003.

Georgia is survived by sons Russell Wayne Cooper Jr. and wife Donna, Cypress, Tx; and Robert Williamson Cooper, Ballwin, MO; grandsons, Ryan Wayne Cooper and Cameron Robert Cooper, Cypress, TX; Schwager, JB McCrickard; sister-in-law Virginia (Ginny) Ramsey; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Her parents, Robert Coleman Ramsey and Ether (George) Ramsey, predeceased her; husband Russell Wayne Cooper; and siblings, Lee Coleman Ramsey and wife, Flo, CJ (Chigger) Ramsey, Tweet Ramsey and Bobbie (Ramsey) McCrickard.
