Mr. Billy Wayne “Bill” Pledger, aged 76, of Rome, passed away on Wednesday April 26, 2023.
Mr. Pledger was born on February 19, 1947 in Rome, GA to the late Gilbert Leon Pledger and the late Calia Sue Barnard Pledger. He was a 1966 graduate of Pepperell High School. Bill began working at Piggly Wiggly while at school and later sold insurance for Liberty National. In 1974, Bill began working for Georgia Power, where he was affectionately known as “Grumpy”. After 32 years of dedicated service, Bill retired from Plant Hammond in 2006 to enjoy time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren. Until his health deteriorated, he was a dedicated and active member of Hill Crest Baptist Church, serving in many capacities over the years including treasurer, deacon, and Sunday school teacher. Never meeting strangers, he was a NASCAR fan and loved gardening and travelling.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Mona McCain Pledger, with whom he was 53; son Todd Pledger; daughter Courtney Pledger; grandsons, Sydney Pledger and Jackson Pledger; and grandson, Minnie. Other survivors include Bill’s sister Debbie (Jeff) Dunagan; sisters-in-law, Shirley Looney, Nancy Rogers and Pat McCain; brother-in-law, Phil McCain; special cousin, Sylvia Pledger; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In accordance with his wish, Bill was cremated and a memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at the Shrine of Hill Crest Baptist Church, 2202 N Broad Street, Rome, led by Pastor Mark Evans . The family receives friends on Sunday from 1.30 p.m. until the service in the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for memorial donations to be made to Hill Crest Baptist Church.
