North Georgia jury delivers verdict on release of aerospace supplier

A federal jury last week sided with a defendant global supplier to aircraft manufacturers, dismissing allegations that it misused an aluminum manufacturer’s trade secrets in connection with its stretch-form spar cap manufacturing process.

Aerospace manufacturer Universal Alloy Corp. was sued in 2015 by Arconic, formerly known as Alcoa Inc., for allegedly stealing trade secrets in the manufacture of the aluminum spar components found in aircraft wings. The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, alleged that UAC’s efforts were made “to siphon off hundreds of millions of dollars.” [Arconic’s] Sales” to Boeing, their first amended complaint states, seeking more than $264 million in damages.
