NEWS: Sens. Ossoff and Warnock advance drinking water safety across Georgia through bipartisan infrastructure bill

The $119.8 million investment will ensure families across Georgia have access to clean, safe drinking water

Washington, D.C. – Thanks to US Senators Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff, the bipartisan infrastructure bill is bringing improvements to drinking water infrastructure in communities across Georgia.

Sens. Warnock and Ossoff today committed $119.8 million to upgrade drinking water infrastructure throughout the Peach State through the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) under the bipartisan infrastructure bill.

These new resources will help ensure communities across Georgia have access to safe drinking water, improve public health, and keep families safe and healthy.

“Senator Warnock and I are making improvements to water infrastructure to remove lead piping from our drinking water and keep our families safe and healthy.” said Senator Ossoff. “Our bipartisan infrastructure law will lead to long overdue modernization of Georgia’s infrastructure in the coming years.”

“This historic investment in modernizing Georgia’s drinking water infrastructure is another victory for our state made possible by the bipartisan infrastructure law.” said Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock. “Ensuring access to clean, safe, and reliable drinking water is vital to nurturing healthier communities that have the opportunity to thrive, and I’m proud to support Senator Ossoff in making that happen for Georgians.” .”

Sens. Ossoff and Warnock secured bipartisan support in the US Senate to implement these new improvements to Georgia family drinking water infrastructure.

Senator Ossoff has long pushed for the removal of lead pipes from drinking water systems to keep families and children safe. In April 2021, Senator Ossoff asked the Senate to pass historic funds to ensure public schools have safe drinking water, citing Georgia along with 22 other states in the nonprofit organization Get the Lead Out as an “F ‘ received a ‘study looking at protecting schoolchildren from lead in drinking water.

At his suggestion, the Senate included his provision in the broader Drinking Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Act, which was incorporated into the bipartisan Infrastructure Act.

Sens. Ossoff and Warnock remain committed to providing resources that keep families safe and improve public safety. They delivered earlier this year $39.2 million Modernization of the basic supply with water, sewage, etc rainwater infrastructure across Georgia through the bipartisan infrastructure law.
