The U.S. Marshals Service recovered a missing child in Atlanta on Wednesday who was taken by his father from Lyon County.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office opened a parental child abduction investigation on Jan. 16, 2022, against Davon Townsell, who reportedly hid his child from the child’s mother, the U.S. Marshals Service said in a news release.
Investigations by LCSO investigators and the USMS in Reno revealed that Townsell had taken his child to the Atlanta, Georgia area.
With assistance from the US Marshals Service in Atlanta, the missing child was recovered without incident. The child was reunited with his mother.
Townsell was also taken into custody on an outstanding Lyon District Court Third District Court warrant for contempt of court.
“Missing child cases are of paramount importance to both the U.S. Marshals Service and our local law enforcement partners,” said U.S. Marshal for the District of Nevada Gary Schofield. “Here is another example of local and federal authorities working together to achieve the safe recovery of a missing child.”
The Nevada USMS Fugitive Task Force in northern Nevada combines the resources and expertise of state, local and federal agencies in a coordinated effort to apprehend dangerous and violent fugitives, the release said.
The USMS Northern Nevada Area Fugitive Task Force is comprised of Deputy U.S. Marshals, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Nevada Attorney General’s Office, Washoe County District Attorney’s Office, the Department for Investigations, the Nevada Department of Corrections and Office of the Inspector General (NDOC IG), Nevada DMV Compliance and Enforcement Division, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the US Postal Inspection Service.
