A missing Lyon County child was reunited with his mother this week after the U.S. Marshals Service solved a parental kidnapping investigation.
Davon Townsell was arrested on an outstanding Lyon District Court warrant for contempt of court.
On January 16, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) opened a parental child abduction investigation against Townsell.
Investigations by LCSO investigators and the USMS in Reno revealed that Townsell had taken his child to the Atlanta area.
With the assistance of the USMS in Atlanta, the missing child was recovered without incident.
“Missing children cases are of utmost importance to the U.S. Marshals Service and our local law enforcement partners. This is another example of local and federal authorities working together to achieve the safe recovery of a missing child,” said Gary Schofield, U.S. Marshal for the District of Nevada.
The Nevada USMS Fugitive Task Force in northern Nevada combines the resources and expertise of state, local and federal agencies in a coordinated effort to apprehend dangerous and violent fugitives. The USMS Northern Nevada Area Fugitive Task Force is comprised of Deputy U.S. Marshals, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Nevada Attorney General’s Office, Washoe County District Attorney’s Office, the Department for investigations, the Nevada Department of Corrections and the Office of the Inspector General (NDOC IG), Nevada DMV Compliance and Enforcement Division, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the US Postal Inspection Service.
The Lyon County District Attorney’s Office will prosecute the case.
