Massive Georgia Ice Raids emphasizes the failures of the Trump policy

Washington DC, September 5 – On September 4, law enforcement officers from several state and state authorities, including the US immigration and customs authority (ICE), carried out a comprehensive immigration attack in a Hyundai plant in southeast of Georgia. According to reports, the RAID reported to at least 475 employees, many of whom were South Korean citizens – including some with legal status. It is the greatest raid that has ever been carried out in recent history on a single job.

In response to this, the American immigration council issued the following comment.

“These raids do not make anyone safer. They terrorize the workers, destabilize communities and put families into chaos.” said Michelle Lapointe, legal director of the American Immigration Council, which is based in the Atlanta region, Georgia. “This historical attack may make dramatic headlines, but it doesn't matter to fix the problems in our broken immigration system: a lack of legal paths and a misguided focus on the punishment of workers and families who do not pose a threat to our communities. Raiding Work -Sites is not a reform, it is a political theater at the expense of families, communities and our economy.”

“Employees with a migration background are the backbone of our economy and exclude critical work gaps in production and beyond. Nationwide, 5.7% of employees are without papers and make up 6.7% of this workforce here in Georgia. Raids of jobs instead of repairing our ways to legal employment is cruel, wasteful and deeply short -sighted. The terrifying effect of these raids will make it less likely that people will appear to work, deepen workers and the companies will hit hard at an already precarious economic momentPresent“” Nan Wu, research director of the American Immigration Council.
