Marjorie Taylor Greene was SWATTED at 1 a.m. at her Georgia home: 911 prank callers lied that someone at her home was “shot multiple times” because they were “upset with their views on transgender rights.”
- The pro-Trump Georgia congresswoman wrote on Twitter that she was “slapped” without further explanation, although she promised more details
- She has led criticism of the FBI and DOJ following the Mar-a-Lago raid
- Greene’s office told DailyMail.com: “Late last night, [Rep. Greene] was the victim of a political attack on her family and home.
- “Swatting” generally means a large crowd of officers being summoned to someone’s home by a prank caller
- DailyMail.com obtained a copy of the police report which shows police were told a man had been shot dead in a bathtub and a woman with children was still there
- The person apparently told police he was connected to a cyberstalking site
According to local police and the congresswoman herself, the home of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene was “raided” in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The Rome Police Department said officers “were responding to an emergency call alert about a subject who had been shot multiple times at an address within city limits.”
The police report obtained by DailyMail.com states that the person said a man had been shot and a woman and children may still be inside.
The person who called was obviously upset with Greene’s attitude toward transgender Americans.
Police said the first of two 911 calls led them to discover “this was Marjorie Taylor Greene’s home.”
“She assured officers there was no problem and the call was labeled a fake call, commonly known as ‘swatting,'” the statement said.
It said officers “received a second call from the suspect, who used a computer-generated voice, stating he/she was upset with Mrs. Greene’s political views on transgender youth rights.”
The attached police report said the individual told officers he was connected to a website “that supports cyberstalking.”
It also suggests that the person is from Richmond, Virginia.
Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene said her home was “raided” in the early hours of Wednesday, without specifying what that meant
In a tweet just before 9 a.m., Donald Trump’s ally thanked her local police department and promised more information would be released.
“Last night I was beaten just after 1am. I cannot express enough gratitude to my local law enforcement agencies here in Rome, Floyd County. More details to come,” Greene wrote on Twitter.
Her office confirmed in a statement to DailyMail.com that there had been a “political attack” on Greene’s home.
“Right now, the safety of Congresswoman Greene is our primary concern. Last night she was the victim of a political attack on her family and home,” Greene’s office said.
“Whoever committed this violent crime will face the full extent of the law.”
Greene promised “more details” about the situation would be released shortly
The act of “swatting” generally involves making a prank call to emergency services to trick law enforcement into breaking into someone’s home.
Greene has spearheaded GOP criticism of federal law enforcement in recent weeks since the FBI’s unannounced search of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.
In the early hours of August 8, the FBI executed a search warrant on the Palm Beach mansion in an operation linked to classified documents being sought by the National Archives.
Trump’s allies like Greene and GOP conference chair Rep. Elise Stefanik condemned the raid as a Justice Department weapon and called for consequences for Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray.
It has drawn criticism from fellow Republicans, who have cited federal warnings of a rising spate of violent threats against federal law enforcement officials in the aftermath of the FBI raid.
