Ludacris receives an honorary doctorate from Georgia State College – BOTWC

It’s full circle for him!

Georgia State University will honor Ludacris with an honorary doctorate. GSU.edu reports.

Chris “Ludacris” Bridges was like many other students when he enrolled for courses at Georgia State in the early ’90s. But soon after, he signed a record deal with Def Jam Records and dropped out of school to pursue a career in the music industry. Ludacris rose to fame by leaps and bounds, becoming a legend in music, film, and philanthropy. And though he never went back to school, the rapper has always given back over the years, establishing the Ludacris Foundation (TLF) to help youth and families in urban communities.

He finally returned to the state of Georgia in 2019, this time as an artist-in-residence at the university’s Creative Media Industries Institute (CMII). There he focused on mentoring students and assisting professors in teaching entrepreneurship in music and film. Ludacris also collaborated with the College of Law on one of its first course offerings called The Legal Life of… Now, the Grammy Award-winning artist is being honored by the state of Georgia for his support of the university, commitment to the Atlanta community and its national philanthropic efforts. The university just announced that it will award Ludacris an honorary Bachelor of Science degree in music management at the beginning of spring this year.

“We are proud that Chris Bridges started in the state of Georgia. He has become a cultural and philanthropic icon, representing Atlanta and giving back in many ways. Our students at the Creative Media Industries Institute (CMII) and College of Law have benefited from his career and we are pleased to honor him as a member of the Panther family,” said Georgia State President M. Brian Blake.

Ludacris says he is honored to receive the title and that the Georgia University System Board of Regents has already approved the honorary degree.

“A dream has come true for me here. Georgia State helped me get started and I’m honored and excited to share this milestone with the world,” said Ludacris.

The start will take place on May 4th at 9 am in the Center Parc stadium. The public is welcome to attend the ceremony and it will be streamed live beginning.gsu.edu.

Congratulations Ludacris!
