Last week, in a long-overdue move, the Georgia Judiciary Council voted unanimously to adopt a recommendation on judicial pay reform.
In 2023, Georgia’s salaries for senior judges, excluding municipal bonuses, ranked at the bottom of the country — a shameful 45th place. It’s little wonder, then, that the Judicial Counsel’s survey found that a majority of Georgia higher court judges believe their compensation is unfair, while 63% of these judges occasionally, regularly, or constantly consider leaving the bench because of their compensation .
