CLAYTON County (WGCL) – Bradley, May 22nd, had moved to an apartment on Redland Drive, Clayton County two weeks ago to be closer to his airport restaurant job and care for his 8-month-old son.
May never made it to his house on Tuesday night. Police say someone shot him on his lawn. His body was found by his roommate on Wednesday morning. His family tells CBS46 Hayley Mason that his car was still running and nothing was stolen.
Clayton County Police barricaded the community in search of a suspect.
May’s parents Ronald and Susan May said their son was not confrontational and didn’t get into any problems.
“We’re a very decent, law-abiding family that helps people, and now we have to sit down and deal with what happened to my son,” said Ronald May. “That was a good person who was shot.”
May’s older brother says his sibling just got their money’s worth and has big plans as an aspiring chef and new father. The two got closer as they got older and talked all the time.
“He wanted to go back to school,” Ryan May said. “He had just had a son and he really wanted to be the best dad he could be and create the best life he could possibly build could.”
“Someone wanted to hurt him on purpose in a way that doesn’t make sense to us,” said Judge Glenda Hatchett, a friend of the family who represents her through the homicide investigation.
Clayton County police said there may have been an altercation that led to the shooting. Hatchett says May was likely dead for hours before his body was found Wednesday morning. She asks everyone with information to come forward.
“Bradley had no enemies per se, but was in a situation where he had been threatened,” said Hatchett. “He was in a custody battle with the baby’s mother. I am very open. He took the main street. The whole family took to the streets as always. We don’t know what happened, but someone knows what happened. “
That grief is indescribable for the May family, who have just lost their eldest son, Brennan, a Navy diver who drowned while doing breathing exercises in a pool in September.
Now the parents and their remaining son are asking for answers about the apparent murder of their youngest child.
“My anger is approaching my sadness very and quickly, and I just want people to help us. Help us find out who did this. Help us find out who did this. That is the greatest. He was amazing. He was a great person, ”said Susan May.
Clayton County police say the man barricaded himself in his home during Wednesday’s murder investigation is Elex Brunson, 33. He has been charged with possession of a gun by convicted felons and disability.
Police won’t say whether Brunson is being investigated as a suspect in the May murder. Clayton Police Department tells CBS46 that they are currently not posting any leads, suspects, or motives.
