ATLANTA – – The deposit was granted on Tuesday morning for Mario Guevara, the Salvadoranian reporter, who was arrested on June 14th during an immigration protest in DEKALB County.
What we know:
The 47-year-old Guevara was taken into custody while filming a demonstration at the crossing of the Chamblee Tucker Road and the Northcrest Road in Doraville. He was initially charged with the illegal assembly, the disability of a law enforcement officer and a pedestrian on or along the street.
After he was granted a bond in Dekalb County, he was taken into custody by the US immigration and customs authority (ICE), which claims that he was illegal in the country.
Guevara is currently taking place in the Stewart Detung Center in Lumpkin, a city in the southwest of Georgia.
He has been dealing with immigration issues in the United States for more than two decades and won an Emmy for his work in 2023.
What you say:
The committee for the protection of journalists has published the following explanation:
The indictment against Guevara in connection with the protest was dropped last week. The Attorney General of Dekalb County decided not to raise an indictment despite the first likely cause of the arrest.
The Spanish -speaking reporter is still exposed to distracted driving, non -observance of a traffic control device and ruthless driving in Gwinnett County.
Guevara fled from his home country of El Salvador in 2004, after La Opini and La Opination threats threats to left -wing paramilitary groups. He worked for Spanish -speaking media, including Atlanta Latino and Mundo Hispánico, and in 2023 he won an Emmy Award for his reporting. He founded Mngews in June 2024 to concentrate on the enforcement of immigration in Metro Atlanta.
His lawyers say that Guevara is about a valid work permit in the United States and has renewed it as required. They also say that he actively tried to get a green card.
A current piece of the New York claims Guevara is targeted by the law enforcement agencies and the immigration authorities he took.
What we don't know:
At this point it is not known when he will be released from the internment camp. Fox 5 Atlanta tries to contact his lawyers.
In addition, Fox 5 Atlanta turned out for an explanation of ice.
