John Valentine Anderson, 67, of Cartersville, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at Riverwood Senior Living after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease and Lewy body dementia.
He was born on May 16, 1956 in Rome, Georgia to George Robert and Jean Valentine Anderson. John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy Wilhoit Anderson, and his brothers, Everett Anderson (Judy), William Peter Anderson, and his brother-in-law, Terry Ledbetter.
John graduated from East Rome High School in 1974 and received a degree in business administration from Floyd Jr. College. During his long career, he served as general manager at Wendy’s, Burger King, Dairy Queen, Taco Bell and McDonald’s. He owned and operated two Dairy King restaurants in Rome, Georgia, and co-owned one in Cedartown, Georgia.
John loved animals and had a special dog named Chaco that he adored. He loved chocolate, the sun and traveling near and far to enjoy beautiful beaches with Nancy. His team was the Georgia Bulldogs and he and Nancy were avid fans. He could tell you anything you ever wanted to know about the DAWGS, and even in his final days he responded to a “Go Dawgs” with a punch. He loved music, particularly from the 70s and 80s, and enjoyed listening to The Eagles, Billy Joel, Paul McCartney and Chicago. John was a kind and gentle man who loved the people in his life and missed his wife Nancy terribly after her death almost three years ago.
John is survived by his daughter Brittainy Anderson Walker (Rob), his grandson Dante Walker, his stepdaughter Ashley Barber (Elias), his brother George Anderson (Marilyn), his sisters Hazel Anderson, Avis Anderson King (Sam), Edie Anderson Hope (Phelps) and Joan Anderson Ledbetter. He is survived by numerous special aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as his former wife Patti Anderson, mother and grandmother of John’s daughter and grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 14, at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens, 2549 Shorter Avenue, Rome, Georgia 30165. Reverend Alan Fuller, chaplain, Heyman Hospice Care, will officiate.
