Atlanta, GA. (WJBF) — A bill that would standardize safety plans for private swimming instructors in Georgia is on Gov. Brian Kemp’s desk.

The bill, which when enacted will be known as “Izzy’s Law,” is named after four-year-old Israel Scott. The bill passed the Georgia House of Representatives by a vote of 169-0.

Under the Izzy Act, the Department of Health would need to develop a publicly available and downloadable water sports activity safety plan based on standards for state-approved swimming instructors.

Scott died in June 2022 by drowning in a private backyard pool during a swimming lesson. The instructor, 66-year-old Lexie Tenhuisen, is accused of negligent homicide.
