GBI helps with Cochran investigation against 13-year-olds
July 12, 2021 update
Cochran, GA (July 12, 2021) – On Sunday, July 11, 2021, Springfield, IL police arrested Zachery M. Despain, 36, of Springfield, IL, in connection with the disappearance of Nastasha Brown of Cochran , GA. The GBI has secured arrest warrants against Despain for encroaching on custody, luring a child for indecent purposes, human trafficking for work purposes or sexual serfdom and kidnapping. Despain faces several charges in connection with this case in Illinois as well. District Attorney Tim Vaughn will seek extradition of Despain back to Georgia to face his charges. This investigation remains active and will continue.
Update July 10, 2021:
Nastasha Brown, 13 years old, lives in Springfield, Illinois. Law enforcement officials in Springfield, IL contacted Georgia authorities at around 8:15 a.m. to let us know that she was found and is currently safe.

Cochran, GA (July 9, 2021) – At around 3:53 p.m. on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, Cochran police received a notice that 13-year-old Nastasha Brown was staying at her apartment on Violet Street, Cochran. , went missing, Bleckley County, Georgia. Family members said the last time they saw Nastasha was in the Violet Street area about 30 minutes before the ad was filed. Based on the information received, Cochran PD initiated an investigation to locate Nastasha and asked the GBI for assistance. The investigation is being conducted by the GBI Region 12 Eastman Office, the GBI Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit, the GBI Cyber Crimes Center, the GBI Georgia Information Sharing & Analysis Center, the Bleckley County Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia State Patrol, the Bleckley County Emergency Management Agency and the Georgia Department of Community Supervision.
Nastasha is described as a 13-year-old black woman, 5’04 “and 102 lbs.
