Household says lacking Indiana mother was able to return to Georgia simply earlier than she disappeared – WSB-TV Channel 2

JOHNS CREEK, Georgia — We’ve been following the investigation into Ciera Locklair Breland’s disappearance for days, and now her family is getting involved, saying they fear the worst.

The missing person case began late last month after Xavier Breland Jr. reported his wife missing after visiting family here in Georgia.

The case now involves police in two states, as well as the FBI and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Channel 2 investigative reporter Mark Winne spoke to Ciera Locklair Breland’s cousin Luke Locklair, who said Ciera changed when she became involved with the man, who is now a person interested in her disappearance.

“It was really difficult. I don’t think anyone knows how to deal with it. We never expected something like this to happen to our family,” Locklair said.

He told Winne that he and Ciera have been close throughout his life. But now he wonders if they’ll ever be in close proximity again.

“Every time I think about it … I’ve cried a few times. It’s getting on my nerves,” Locklair said.

“Is the family afraid the worst has happened?” asked Winne Locklair.

“Yes sir, they are, because she would have called by now. She’s a really smart girl,” Locklair said.

According to Locklair, Ciera grew up in northeast Georgia and has spent most of her career as an attorney at a prestigious Atlanta law firm.

TREND STORIES:

“The whole family looked up to her because she actually made it to be a lawyer, passed her bar exam and actually achieved what her dreams were,” Locklair said.

But he said Ciera moved to Carmel, Indiana months ago with her husband Xavier Breland Jr. — a man now struggling with a variety of legal issues — who reported her missing in Indiana on Feb. 26, but as a person of interest was named by police upon her disappearance.

“Have you noticed a change in Ciera since she became involved with Xavier Breland Jr?” asked Winne Locklair.

“Yes sir, I have. It was kind of dramatic,” Locklair said.

Locklair said family members told him that in late February Ciera planned to return to Georgia and move in with her parents without Breland Jr.

“Actually, she packed her things to move back in,” Locklair said.

Breland is at the center of a permanent domestic violence protection order involving another woman. A document from Breland’s side said he denied committing any crimes against domestic violence and/or other offences.

We received a Fairburn document containing an aggravated stalking indictment and an aggravated stalking indictment in Coweta County. We are told that an attorney has entered a plea of not guilty.

Locklair said later that week the family will get together to distribute copies of a flyer he designed saying they are working with police in Johns Creek, where Ciera and Breland Jr. recently visited.

He said a relative recently brought Ciera’s dog Baker to him. Locklair said Ciera would never have willingly stayed away from her 5-month-old baby or from Baker for so long.

“Baker was like her baby before she even had a baby. She treated that dog like he was a baby,” Locklair said.

Locklair said family members were hopeful but fearful. He’s hoping by speaking up that it will persuade someone to call the police with information about their whereabouts or what happened.

A statement from the Carmel, Indiana Police Department said: “Mr. Breland has not been criminally charged in connection with this case, but he was arrested on an unrelated warrant from Coweta County, GA.”

We’ve taken steps over the past few days to try and get someone to speak on behalf of Xavier Breland Jr., but no one has commented so far.
