Household of man killed by Georgia State Trooper plans to sue the state

The family of a black man who was killed by a Georgia State Patrol soldier this summer plans to sue the Georgia state for a death, according to a legal notice filed Monday.

White soldier Jacob Gordon Thompson was charged with murder for shooting and killing Julian Lewis during a traffic obstruction in rural Screven County in August. Thompson was also fired.

Lewis’ wife Betty Lewis described his death as “devastating” at a press conference announcing the lawsuit.

“The money won’t bring my husband back; No amount of money will bring him back, ”she said. “I loved my husband. He is not here. But justice is served. “

Lewis’ family is asking the state to pay $ 1 million, the maximum legal limit. The family also plans to file a federal lawsuit.
