The Daily Report examined the judicial nominations of three Georgia governors from March 30, 2011 through February 22, 2021.
Georgia Governor Nathan Deal and his successor, Governor Brian Kemp, appointed 157 individuals to the Georgia state, high and appeals courts during that time. At least 123 are white. The ethnicity of one of the appointees – former Crawford County Magistrate Judge Richard Spencer, who appointed the 2013 deal – was not disclosed in the courts’ administrative office records.
For minorities, the figures show that they are five times less likely to be selected for a state court bank than their white counterparts.
Here’s a look at what that means for many in the legal profession.
