Harmful powder sickens warehouse staff in Georgia | State Information

DUBLIN, Ga. (AP) — One person was hospitalized Thursday and others became ill from a possible release of hazardous materials Thursday at a warehouse in Middle Georgia.

Dublin Fire Chief Matthew Cutler told local news outlets that firefighters were called to Best Buy’s distribution center. More than 20 employees complained of eye, nose and throat irritation from an unknown powdery substance.

Firefighters and company employees evacuated the camp, which was closed for the day.

A hazmat team responded to help firefighters with decontamination. Best Buy also sent a cleaning team.

The condition of a patient who was taken to a local hospital was unknown.

Minneapolis-based Best Buy Co. said it was investigating the cause.

“Nothing is more important to us than the safety of our employees,” the company said in a statement.
