Georgia voters smash a second turnout record for the presidential election on Saturday

October 23, 2022

(Atlanta) – Voters in Georgia continued to achieve record-breaking turnout on the first mandatory Saturday of early voting. As of Sunday morning, approximately 740,000 Georgia voters cast their ballot during the in-person early voting, with a whopping 79,682 showing up on Saturday, October 22. Saturday’s total represents a staggering 159% increase from the sixth day of early voting in 2018 and broke the 20% turnout record of day six of early voting in the 2020 presidential election.

Georgia has seen record early voting turnout since the first day of early voting this year, nearly doubling the first day of early voting in 2018. The total has remained within striking distance of turnout for the 2020 presidential election, shattering previous figures.

“Early voting is strong because the voter registration system in Georgia is strong,” said Georgian Foreign Minister Brad Raffensperger. “Any eligible Georgian who wishes to register as a voter is registered as a voter. Georgians have taken advantage of automated voter registration with the DDS online and tracked their status on the My Voters page.”

Reports of long lines have been rare, with some lines being reported in the metro areas. No significant delays were reported yesterday. Participation in early voting is expected to increase during the final week of early voting and voters are encouraged to take advantage of the mandatory early voting day next Saturday.
