Georgia: UN Expert on Human Rights Assessment of Persons with Disabilities

GENEVA (September 1, 2023) -UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Gerard Quinn, will pay an official visit to Georgia from September 4-14, 2023.

During his visit, Quinn will examine laws, policies and specific actions the government is taking to protect and promote the rights of people with disabilities in the country. The visit is at the invitation of the government.

The expert will travel to Tbilisi, Kakheti region and other areas to meet with government agencies, the Public Defender’s Office, people with disabilities and their representative organizations, civil society and UN organizations.

He will also visit institutions for people with disabilities, psychiatric institutions and institutions that provide services for people with disabilities.

The Special Rapporteur will hold a press conference Thursday, September 14, 2 p.m. local time at the Courtyard By Marriott Hotel in Tbilisi, 4 Freedom Square, Tbilisi, Georgia. Access is reserved exclusively for journalists.

The expert will present his report to the Human Rights Council in March 2024.
