Georgia Teen fatally shot whereas “goal follow” with mates: Officers

A Georgia high school senior was fatally shot while hanging out with friends in a backyard where investigators believe they are targeting practice, sheriff officials said.

Candace Chrzan, a 17-year-old who attended Mount Zion High School in Jonesboro, died late Tuesday after being shot dead at the Mount Zion home, according to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.

“This remains an open and active investigation and all parties involved in this terrible tragedy are currently working together,” said a statement on Wednesday.

Investigators are working with prosecutors to determine if the death of the “cute” promising teenager who picked up her graduation cap and dress earlier this week will be charged. This is evident from a report.

“There were just a few friends in the back yard, we were told, who may have been aiming with a gun,” Ashley Hulsey, the sheriff’s spokeswoman in the office, told WSB-TV. “The children probably weren’t taught the gun safety rules that they should have learned. And that ultimately led to Candace’s death.”

Investigators believe the shooting was an accident, but criminal charges of the teen’s death are possible, Hulsey told the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

“We don’t think it was intentional,” said Hulsey.

Chrzan, a member of the Mount Zion High School marching band, “left a broken hearted community,” according to an online fundraiser set up to help cover funeral expenses.

“As we all mourn, it is time for Eagle Nation to stand up and support a family that has always supported us,” wrote organizer Tiffany Cantrell. “Let us help calm this beautiful young lady and calm her family.”

Sheriff officials urged the public to respect the family’s privacy as they mourn the loss of a “bright young soul” and their classmates will return to school on Thursday.
