Former Georgia tight end John FitzPatrick is staying home to start his NFL career. The Atlanta Marist School product went to the Atlanta Falcons as the No. 213 overall pick in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
FitzPatrick became the second Georgia player picked by the Falcons on Day 3 of the NFL draft after offensive lineman Justin Shaffer went 23 picks early, marking the first time the Bulldogs franchise had drafted in 11 years. He was one of 15 players from Georgia’s national title-winning team to have their names called in this year’s draft, setting a record for most players by school selected in a seven-round draft.
FitzPatrick, used primarily as a blocking tight end in Georgia, appeared in 38 games with seven starts in the last three seasons after being redshirted in 2018. Last season, he caught six passes for 83 yards in 15 games as the Bulldogs won their first national title since 1980.
