Georgia C. Spingler
December 9, 1934 – September 28, 2023
WEEDSPORT – Georgia C. Spingler, 88, formerly of Weedsport, passed away Thursday, September 28, 2023, at The Commons on St. Anthony. Georgia was born December 9, 1934 in Auburn, the daughter of the late Ernest and Marcia (Farrant) Cady.
After graduating from high school, Georgia worked as a secretary at the Home Bureau in Auburn and later as a teacher’s assistant for the Weedsport School District.
Georgia was a former member of Weedsport Baptist Church, where she shared her musical talents playing the organ and piano, as well as singing in the choir. In recent years, she attended Weedsport United Methodist Church, continued to sing in its choir and participate in Bible study. She also enjoyed knitting in her prayer shawl group.
In earlier years, Geogia invested her time and love in sewing and knitting for her grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading and shopping with her sister Amy Lou. In addition to time spent with family, she made many wonderful memories with her husband at the Moravia Pony Racing Club and winters spent in Florida.
Georgia is survived by her daughter Marcia (Mark) Riester; her sons: Ronald (Judy) Spingler and Jim (Mary Jane) Spingler; her grandchildren: Jason, Rob and Sarah Riester, Eric (Cheri) Zizza, Emily (Chris) Herndon, Courtney (Tom) Johnston-Smith, Gavin Johnston, Courtney Spingler, Jessica (Brian) Jayne and Katelyn (Kalan) Kent; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Georgia was also predeceased by her husband, Bruce Spingler, and her sisters, Shirley Sutcliffe and Amy Lou Hinman. as well as several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Weedsport Rural Cemetery
