SAVANNAH, Georgia (WSAV) Garden City Police located former Georgia Southern football star Wesley Kennedy III in a wooded area near Dean Forest Road around 9 p.m. Tuesday night.
He is reunited with his family and is now receiving medical attention.
Kennedy III has been missing since Sunday afternoon when he left his apartment in the Pooler area and was last seen not far from the area where police found him two days later.
Friends and family, along with law enforcement from the Savannah and Garden City Police Department, showed up to help find Kennedy.
Police discovered Kennedy near a landfill at around 12:45 p.m. early Tuesday, but he ran into the woods before they could approach him.
“An extensive search was carried out by multiple jurisdictions,” the Garden City Police said in a press release. “Mr. Kennedy consistently avoided contact with any law enforcement agencies trying to locate him.”
“At 9:00 pm, he was picked up by the Garden City Police Officer, Cpl. Wilson, on Dean Forest Road and Sunshine Avenue in Garden City. “
“Thanks to all of my family and friends who have come to help me have my son,” said Yulonda Maxwell, Wesley’s mother, in a Facebook message shortly after he was found. “He’s safe and on his way to the hospital.”
Kennedy was an eminent soccer player at both Georgia Southern University and Benedictine Military School.
