Georgia Seibel Obituary (1942 – 2023)

On March 11, 2023, Georgia R. Seibel passed away at her home in Aztec, New Mexico after a brief battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)/Lou Gehrig’s Disease. she was 80

Georgia is survived by her husband Don who has taken incredible care of her throughout their remarkable life together, making sure her final days were as bright and peaceful as possible. her sons Darryl (Colorado Springs, Colorado) and Greg (Odessa, Texas); daughters-in-law Amie and Lori; grandchildren Zachary, Logan and Allie; and great-grandchildren Annabelle and Odette.

Georgia was born on March 27, 1942 in Durango, Colorado. The eldest of four children born to Adolpho and Juanita Olguin (Georgia, Ramona, Richard, and Lance), she grew up on a farm in Tiffany, Colorado, and graduated from nearby Ignacio High School in 1960.

Shortly after high school, Georgia moved to Denver, where she attended cosmetology school. After graduating, she returned to southern Colorado and began a highly successful career as a cosmetologist in Ignacio and Durango. She had a large and loyal client base that followed her throughout her career.

In 1978, Don and Georgia moved their family to Aztec, where Georgia transitioned into a new career as an office manager, working for two successful accounting firms in Farmington. Georgia ran companies the same way she ran her home: with top-notch efficiency, openness, and just the right amount of tough love—traits she was widely admired and respected for.

Outside of work, Georgia loved spending meaningful time with family and friends, traveling, cooking, reading, and playing bridge later in life. Many didn’t know it, but in her younger years, Georgia was a champion bowler, won the Durango City Championship and competed several times at the US National Championships, and was an excellent water skier. Rarely was the weekend between the months of May and October that she, Don and their sons were not found at Navajo Lake, which became the backdrop for many wonderful memories with family and friends.

Perhaps more than anything, Georgia was generous, loyal, curious, and fun. She was strong-willed and confident, but had an unfailingly kind heart. She was a loving wife, an incredible mother, and infinitely adored her grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Ramona Ortiz, whom she held in high esteem.

True to her humble upbringing, Georgia asked that no memorial service be held. Instead, please make the most of the time you have with family and close friends, as Georgia always has.
