Georgia Republican files for divorce from glamorous oncologist after seven children – while GOP member reveals he “fondled a colleague in the House chamber” – and sends cryptic text message to his spurned wife

After twelve years of marriage and less than two years in Congress, Georgia Republican Congressman Rich McCormick has filed for divorce from his wife, oncologist Dr. Debra Miller.

The case was filed by McCormick on May 3. A temporary restraining order was also requested, DailyMail.com exclusively reports.

McCormick, 55, and Miller, his second wife, have seven children together and live in Suwanee, Georgia. When asked about the reasons for the divorce, Miller wrote to DailyMail.com: “I'm sure he won't be forthcoming.”

Insiders on Capitol Hill say McCormick has often been overly friendly toward Republican Rep. Beth Van Duyne (Texas).

One GOP member told DailyMail.com that over the past three to four months they have seen McCormick and Van Duyne, 53, “holding hands under the table” at the weekly Republican Study Committee luncheon and that he “grabbed her back” during votes on the House floor.

Two eyewitnesses said they saw him and Beth holding hands, and one of them witnessed the two leaving their polling place.

After 12 years of marriage and less than two years in Congress, Republican Representative Richard McCormick of Georgia has filed for divorce from his wife, oncologist Dr. Debra Miller.

Capitol Hill insiders say McCormick was often observed being overly friendly toward a Republican congresswoman, Beth Van Duyne, R-Texas (above).

And during the State of the Union address on March 7, the two were seen sitting together and laughing as they watched Biden's speech.

In a tender moment between the two, captured on camera, McCormick even reached out to gently squeeze Van Duyne's arm.

When asked if the divorce was about an alleged affair he may have had with a colleague, his soon-to-be ex-wife Miller replied: “You should ask Rich and his colleague that.”

A third witness told DailyMail.com that he saw Van Duyne holding McCormick's arm as he walked out of the Longworth Office building late that night.

Van Duyne has been divorced from her ex-husband, with whom she was married for 17 years, since 2012. The couple have two children together.

When asked about the relationship and the divorce, a spokesperson for McCormick told DailyMail.com: “Congressman McCormick and Dr. Miller have been separated for some time. He has kept this private and will continue to keep his private life out of the media spotlight.”

A representative for Van Duyne declined to comment to DailyMail.com.

McCormick and his wife were recently photographed together over the Christmas holidays, but notably he left her out of a recent Mother's Day tribute on X.

According to McCormick's Facebook account, the couple married on August 16, 2011.

McCormick served as a pilot in both the Marine Corps and Navy for over 20 years and also worked as an emergency room physician at Gwinnett Medical Center in Georgia.

He is seeking his first term in Congress after taking office in January 2023. He ran unsuccessfully for Georgia's 7th district in 2020 against Democrat Carolyn Bordeaux.

In November, McCormick was the lead author of a censure motion against Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan for “promoting false representations of the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel and calling for the destruction of the State of Israel.”

Happy Mother's Day to all the amazing mothers out there! Today I would like to give a special thank you to my own mother. As a single mother, she showed me what hard work and determination really mean.

She taught me to never settle for mediocrity and to always strive for greatness. … pic.twitter.com/CMopcxlevM

Shortly thereafter, Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, who also filed an unsuccessful motion to reprimand Tlaib, accused McCormick of becoming physically aggressive toward her.

Sources told CNN that during a private meeting with House Speaker Mike Johnson in December, Greene claimed her male colleague “grabbed her by the shoulders and shook her” and demanded that the speaker comment on the issue.

“I understand why there was a lot of open emotion after the vote on the no confidence vote, since her no confidence motion was put on hold and mine was passed. My intention was to encourage Rep. Greene with a friendly gesture,” McCormick said.

He denied having been physically aggressive towards her.
