Jana Beasley tells 11Alive that she requested a social check-up for her friend and Officer Paramhans Desai responded. His compassion helped her through this difficult time.
HENRY COUNTY, Georgia – Jana Beasley couldn’t reach her friend in early October. After trying to contact her several times, she decided to call the Henry County Police Department for a social checkup.
Officer Paramhans Desai answered.
“I met him out there. We found out that she died in her home. He was so nice to me, ”she said while holding back the tears. “Sorry, I’m emotional.”
She says the 17-year-old law enforcement veteran then spoke about difficult times in his life to ease her pain.
“He told me about his father, who died not so long ago, and how difficult it is. He was very comforting and stayed with me the whole time. He was just very cute, ”she said. “He made a huge difference.”
He stayed there for a couple of hours. Beasley quickly realized that he has more than just a badge.
“It didn’t seem to be just a cop that I saw as an authority figure. I had seen him as someone who comforted. As a friend, although I had never seen him before, “she said.
Now she hopes to ease his pain by sending prayers and good wishes while the father of two struggles for his life at Grady Medical Center.
The 38-year-old was shot dead on Thursday shortly after responding to a domestic incident in a McDonough home.
“I’m sure he did such a great thing, you know, for someone else too, and seeing that just broke my heart,” she said. “When I saw his picture, my heart just sank. I just couldn’t understand why something bad happened to them to such great people.”
Officer Desai is in critical condition, according to police.
A $ 30,000 reward is currently available for information leading to Jordan Jackson’s arrest on the case. A manhunt is currently underway against the 22-year-old because he is a suspect identified in connection with the shooting.
He is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs about 165 pounds.
“Please, if you hear something, let someone know. I know he’s out there. I can’t even imagine how the family is doing on either side, ”added Beasley.
Governor Brian Kemp took to Twitter and asked people to keep the injured Henry County official in their thoughts and prayers.
Another Facebook user wrote: “[Officer Desai is] the nicest and most sensible cop I have ever met. I’m so sad. Pray for his healing and for his wife / children. He spoke highly of her when we called for help. “
Henry County Police Department announced that Officer Desai came to see them on October 19, 2020. He previously spent much of his law enforcement career with the Georgia Department of Corrections before joining Dekalb County Police Department in October 2019.
“Officer Desai is married and has two young children. He remains in critical condition and continues to fight for his life,” it said.
“Let me be crystal clear, we certainly will not tolerate any person, no matter who you are, who comes into what we consider God’s land of Henry County to harm our police officers in any way,” said Henry County Sheriff said Reginald Scandrett during a press conference. “So Mr. Jackson, whatever void you are in, I assure you we will find you, we will take you into custody and bring you to justice.”
The sheriff’s office said people should continue to be careful when encountering Jackson.
