Georgia Murray Hank Obituary – Turnbull Funeral Home – Monmouth

Georgia “Louise” (née Rubison) Murray Hank of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away on October 3, 2023.
Louise was born on September 23, 1931 in Center, Missouri, to William Russell and Elizabeth Alberta (née Couch) Rubison. She was raised and educated in Missouri. Louise attended the Hannibal School System, Missouri.
Louise was married to Harry Eugene Murray on January 23, 1948 in Hannibal, Missouri. Five children were welcomed into this union: Harry Russell, Paula Louise, Kathryn Elizabeth, Carol Ann and Bryan Eugene. The family traveled to Galesburg, Illinois in 1953. When Harry began working for Western Stoneware, the family moved to Monmouth, Illinois in 1955. The family settled at 1002 East Euclid Avenue.
During this time, Louise actively participated in her children’s activities, including serving as a Scout mother, Scout leader, and Sunday school teacher at the First United Methodist Church of Monmouth. As a Garfield Elementary PTA member and room mother, she helped with school activities involving her children and helped with many activities at Monmouth High School. She would help with Harry’s business – Custom Miller based in Monmouth. She and Harry enjoyed entertaining friends at their home and boating on the Mississippi over the years.
1968 and 1969 brought hard times for Louise when, with the help of the Mayo Clinic, Harry had to be hooked up to one of the first dialysis machines in their home. The community supported the family with fundraising efforts to purchase the machine, which they later donated to Monmouth Community Hospital. Harry died in September 1969.
Louise began working for the Chamberlain and Ambrose Medical Office. She enjoyed playing bridge and golfing with her friends. On August 13, 1971, she married Roger Hank. Louise was also a member of the Eastern Star. Traveling, reading and collecting elephant statuettes were among her favorite pastimes.
She became a partner in Hank Real Estate. She also owned and helped operate the Western Stoneware Showroom and Gold House Antiques. She and Roger moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where she worked for Urology Associates and the Belk Department Store in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. In 1987 they returned to Galesburg, where she worked for the Sears Department Store for several years. She was active in United Methodist Women Society circles.
When her health began to decline, she moved to Monmouth Nursing Home in 2018. She spent her last days here. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Monmouth and Galesburg. Louise enjoyed visits from church members while living at Monmouth Nursing Home.
She is survived by her children, Paula Louise (Larry) Coats of Pagosa Springs, Colorado; Kathryn Elizabeth Coursey of Galesburg, Illinois, Carol Ann Murray of San Clemente, California; and Bryan (Linda) Murray of Monmouth, Illinois. Surviving grandchildren are Harry (Heather) Blumberg, Joseph (Lauren) Blumberg, James (Layla) Coats, Robert (Jennifer) J. Coursey, Matthew C. Coursey, Megan (Adam) Dubin, Melinda (Nicolas) Murray Gomez and Rebecca ( Tim) Murray White. Surviving great-grandchildren are Eden Blumberg, Hannah Blumberg, Harrison Blumberg, Russell Coats, Sadie Coats, Lachlan Coats, Pierson Coats, Teagan Coats, Adriana Gomez, Paige Meier, Quinn White and Abygail White.
Her parents predeceased her; husband, Harry Eugene Murray; son, Harry Russell Murray; husband, Roger Hank; brother Fred Rubison and son-in-law Stephen Coursey.
Cremation rites were granted. Burial will be in Monmouth Municipal Cemetery. A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. at the Monmouth Municipal Cemetery. All friends and family are warmly welcome. Memorials may be made to Monmouth First United Methodist Church, Louise Murray Hank Emergency Fund, 221 East Broadway, Monmouth, Illinois 61462.
