A Georgia woman was shot and killed by her ex-husband outside a courthouse just two days after their divorce was finalized.
Krystal Evans, 44, was sitting in her vehicle after an appearance at the Spalding County Courthouse on Friday when police said her ex-husband Tom Mallory shot her before shooting himself.
Spalding Sheriff Darrell Dix wrote in one Facebook post On Saturday, Krystal Evans was walking from the courthouse to her car when Mallory pulled up next to her car and fired “multiple shots” through the window. Officers outside the courthouse responded to the scene, followed Mallory and attempted to stop him. When Mallory finally stopped, he shot himself in the head but survived. However, Krystal Evans did not do this.
Precious Evans told WXIA-TV, “My mom literally called the sheriff – the sheriff's department – the day before because he was stalking her and they didn't do anything. Would they have had someone to accompany them, as their friend had asked? She would still be here.
Dix denied that claim in the post, claiming that surveillance footage from that day never showed Krystal Evans asking for an escort.
Krystal Evans previously posted on Facebook: “Dude please leave me alone. It's over.” In another post from 2023, she told friends and family, “If anything happens to me, please know that Mallory did it…”
Dix said in the post: “Do improvements need to be made to the law? Yes, they do. Maybe it wasn’t a deputy or my agency that failed, maybe it was the law itself.”
