Georgia Martin
June 3, 1940 –
Georgia Mae (Wolfe) Martin returned to God in Heaven (died peacefully) at home on August 28, 2021 with her daughter Don’a by her side.
The daughter of the late Floyd and Margaret (Benson) Wolfe, Georgia, was preceded in death by her husband Aloysius “OWL” M. Martin; and her eldest “favorite daughter”, D’Ann M. Caron; as well as her brother Edward Wolfe; her husband’s brothers and sisters, Rosie and Ray Madden, Joe Martin, Helene and James McGann, Agnes Barbe, Sylvester “Vesty” and Bonnie Martin, Ursula and “Buzz” Riley, Marty and Tom Moore.
She is survived by her youngest “favorite daughter” Don’a M. Martin; Son-in-law Paul R. Caron; beloved grandchildren, Michael A., Stephen J., Laura K., Benjamin R., and Daniel P. Caron; and her sisters Mary June Mieszkowski, Rosalee A. (Wolfe) Steele, Gloria “Sandi” Wolfe; Brother Floyd “Sonny” Wolfe and his wife Brenda; and sister-in-law, Pat Wolfe; her niece / best friend, Margaret (McGann) Tam; as well as an abundance of cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-great-nephews.
Georgia had been an active member of St. Patrick’s Parish since the mid-1960s when she and Al moved to their home on North Mechanic Street. She spent incalculable hours organizing the volunteers in the health room for the Saint Pat School when her daughters were enrolled, serving at pancake breakfasts, as part of the bereavement service, and countless other endeavors. Her involvement extended to the Bishop Walsh High School community and continued after her daughters graduated from high school.
Georgia also enjoyed “having lunch with the girls,” a small group of women who gathered regularly and weathered life’s storms together. She often said what a crucial part of her life these wonderful women were.
Georgia had a variety of employment experiences but began life “in politics” after Al died in 1996. She became a member of the electoral committee, was named Democrat of the Year in 2007, and was President of the Board of Directors for several years. In the fall of 2019, she finally retired at the age of 79.
Georgia’s life revolved around children when she was very young, the oldest child caring for her brothers and sisters. As her daughters grew up, she organized, volunteered, accompanied and attended so many events that she often joked that she had “the stadium back” from all the basketball and baseball games she attended. With the arrival of their first grandchild, Michael, and 18 months later, their second grandchild, Stephen, she and Al created and spent as much time as possible on a busy “road route” from Cumberland to Boston. When she was blessed with her remaining grandchildren, triplets, Laura, Benjamin, and Daniel, Al had returned to heaven. She and her daughter Don’a continued the Boston excursions, but mostly by plane. Once when she arrived the children said, “We knew you were coming because we put roses in your room.” Georgia’s fondest memories come from the vacations she took with Don’a and D’Ann and their family, especially the cruise to Alaska and Hawaii and the trips to the beach and Rome and Paris.
Georgia often talked about how proud she was of her daughters and grandchildren, emphasizing that she loved each and every one of them just because they were them! Georgia also assured them that she would continue to take care of them when she and Al were reunited.
Often times, when Georgia was telling stories, she started laughing long before the end, and her laughter was contagious. Sometimes people couldn’t even understand what she was saying but joined in the laughter because they couldn’t help it! Her sense of humor and storytelling will long be remembered and sorely missed.
Visits will be private.
